"What are the rewards of fostering? Everything"

Image of Janie and Jeff

Janie and Jeff started fostering a couple of years ago. When they found out they were unable to have their own children, Janie gave up her job as a deputy head at a primary school and Jeff changed his job at his company to be at home more so they could become foster carers:

"One of my main worries about not going to work everyday was becoming a Jerry Springer lady and just lolling about in a tracksuit all day. And big deal - some days I am in a tracksuit all day, but if I'm having fun with the kids and we're painting or cooking or getting in a mess, who cares?

"My quality of life is just fantastic. Nowadays I just can't keep the grin off my face. Today I went to collect a child and my friend said: 'Do you always smile? How can you when I know you've been up half the night?' But it's just how I feel. It's fantastic - we get back so much from the children and we have learned so much from them. It is great knowing that whilst we are helping children and babies we are getting as much - if not more - from the experience."
